3 real-life claims stories that show the value of travel insurance

Travel insurance can be one of those things that you think you don’t need, until you do. There’s a lot that can go wrong when you travel, including lost luggage, cancelled flights, and getting injured. Take a look at three real-life examples from travel insurer, CoverMore, that highlight the value of travel insurance.

Theft in Italy

A customer was travelling to Italy with his mountain bike. Knowing he was carrying something of high value, he added extra luggage cover of up to $10,000 to his travel insurance policy. Luckily he did, because when he went out and left his bike locked up at his accommodation, he returned to find the lock had been cut and his bike had been stolen. Thanks to his travel insurance, he was covered for a $9,500 stolen luggage claim.

Bali Belly

While on holiday in Bali, a customer contracted a bad case of food poisoning. Her accommodation organised a doctor to come and see her - she was so dehydrated that the doctor advised to call an ambulance to take her to hospital. The customer was rushed to hospital and given medication to treat her illness, but it meant that she could not catch her scheduled flight home. With her travel insurance, she was able to claim on overseas medical cover and additional expenses to purchase extra accommodation until she recovered.

Misplaced item in Brazil

Upon arriving in Rio De Janeiro, a customer realised that she had accidentally left her prescription glasses on the plane. She tried to contact the airline as soon as she discovered they were left behind, however airline staff couldn’t locate her glasses. This meant that she needed to purchase new glasses to properly enjoy her overseas trip. With her travel insurance in place, she was able to replace her glasses under her replacement of luggage item policy.

These stories highlight just how important it is to arrange travel insurance before you head away. You never know what could happen, and it’s important that you have the cover you need, when you need it.
